Minister for the Environment John Gormley is attending the United Nations conference on climate change in Copennhagen.

Environment ministers are trying to reach agreement on targets for greenhouse gas emissions before Friday's deadline.

China is calling on the US to do more to tackle climate change.

Meanwhile, protestors have accused Danish police of being heavy handed in arresting almost 1,000 people during yesterday's demonstrations in the Danish capital.

A small number of protestors threw bricks and smashed windows.

Police said that almost all of those arrested have now been released.
