Two firefighters were injured tackling a blaze at a college attached to Queens University in Belfast.

Four fire engines were called to the fire which broke out at Union Theological College at Botanic Avenue in south Belfast.

The firefighters were injured by molten metal inside the building but are not thought to have been seriously hurt. 26 residential students at the college had to be moved from their accommodation nearby, but none were injured.

The blaze was discovered in a part of the college which was being renovated at a cost of over £2m (€2.23m).

The college, which was founded in the 1850s, is the main training institution for students wishing to become Presbyterian ministers.

It is a Grade 'A' listed building and a landmark in the university area of Belfast.
