Man airlifted to hospital after Clare rescue

A man has been airlifted to hospital in Galway after being rescued from the sea off the coast of Co Clare.

The man, who is understood to have been fishing, was spotted in the water at Ballyreen, five kilometres north of Doolin, by two people on the shore shortly after 9am.

Valentia Coastguard co-ordinated the search.

The Aran Island lifeboat, Shannon Rescue helicopter, Doolin Coastguard Unit and RNLI lifeboat also attended the scene.

The man was airlifted from the water shortly before 10am and taken to Galway University Hospital.

His condition is not known.
