Prayers were offered in the Philippines and Ireland for the release of Irish priest Fr Michael Sinnott.
A video released by his abductors yesterday showed the 79-year-old Columban Missionary in apparent good health.
In the video, he appealed to the authorities in the Philippines and Ireland to help secure his release as soon as possible.
His abductors are demanding a $2m (€1.36m) ransom, but the Columban Missionary Society says no ransom will be paid.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin says no effort will be spared to secure the safe release of Fr Sinnott as soon as possible.
Fr Sinnott was kidnapped from his mission office in Pagadian on Mindanao island on 11 October.
A spokesman for the Philippines government said they had rejected the ransom demand and would continue efforts to ensure his release.
A spokesman for President Gloria Arroyo said paying money to free Fr Sinnott went against state policy.
'We will do everything to ensure his safe release,' Cerge Remonde said. 'We will, however, stick to the international policy of paying no ransom.'
