Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah has called for the head of the country's Independent Election Commission to be sacked ahead of a run-off poll next month.

Mr Abdullah called for the 'immediate dismissal' of Azizullah Ludin and his replacement with another member of the IEC.

A nominally independent body, the IEC's commissioners were appointed by President Hamid Karzai and Mr Ludin was a former presidential adviser.
