Bord Gáis has announced that it will invest €2.5bn in six major projects over the next five years.
The company's investment in a home energy efficiency project will lead to 250 new jobs by the end of next year.
The six Bord Gáis investment projects are at varying stages of completion and include a €400m power production plant in Whitegate, Co Cork, a €300m investment in electricity peaking plants and €1.2bn investment in wind energy projects.
The home energy efficiency project will offer homeowners a range of 22 different products and services, which should help to reduce their energy bills.
The €2.5bn investment is part of the company's objectives to invest in environmental opportunities, improve efficiency and maintain and enhance the security of energy supply.
Bord Gáis Chief Executive John Mullins said the project would provide a substantial economic stimulus.
