Three men from Co Armagh, who admitted having a mortar bomb two years ago, have been jailed for a total of 45 years.
The PSNI has claimed the men had been intending to kill police members.
Earlier court hearings were told that the three men had been watched by undercover British soldiers in the Lurgan area of Co Armagh at the end of March 2007.
A few days later the three were arrested outside the town, close to where a mortar bomb had been found near the Belfast to Dublin railway line.
26-year-old Damien William McKenna from Dean's Walk, Lurgan, Gary Toman aged 24 from Drumnamoe Avenue, Lurgan, and 23-year-old Sean Gerard McConville from Kilwilkie Road, Lurgan, each received a 15 years sentence at Belfast Crown Court.
The three had pleaded guilty to possessing the mortar bomb, the support frame and a propulsion unit with intent to endanger life.
A charge of conspiracy to cause an explosion was dropped.
Speaking afterwards, PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Drew Harris claimed the intention of the defendants had been to kill police officers with the improvised device.
There were later reports of disturbances in the Kilwilkie estate and at one stage a van was set alight.
Police urged motorists to stay away from the area.
