An air and sea search is taking place off the Cork coast following a reported sighting of distress flares.

The search is being concentrated in the area between Toe Head and the Stags rocks.

The alarm was raised by the crew of an English yacht which was in the area.

The Shannon coastguard helicopter, Baltimore Lifeboat and a number of cliff and coast rescue teams are involved in the search.
