59 jobs at ground handling company Aviance are to be lost as the company is set to close its Dublin Airport operation on 25 August.

A further 41 employees are to transfer to Service Air, another ground handling company based at the airport.

Aviance currently employs 100 people at Dublin Airport. The closure follows a decision by the company last November to pull out of Dublin Airport.

However, following negotiations with staff a cost base reduction plan was put into place. This involved staff taking a 20% pay cut, reduction in working hours and 50 voluntary redundancies.

However, the company has in the last few weeks said that the plan was not feasible.

Meanwhile, the 100 workers have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action if the company fails to agree terms of closure with the workers union, SIPTU.
