Bord na Móna - Workers to be balloted on Thursday

Unions at Bord na Móna have deferred plans for strike action after a meeting with management.

It is understood that workers will be balloted on Thursday on new proposals from the company.

A picket was placed on some Bord na Móna works this morning, but the action has now been lifted until the ballot in Tullamore.

Workers at Bord na Móna bogs in Offaly, Westmeath and Longford had voted in favour of strike action three weeks ago.

The dispute concerns proposed changes to the payment system for staff who are harvesting peat for the three power stations.

The staff are all involved in the harvesting process for peat delivered to power stations in Edenderry, Shannonbridge and Lanesborough.
