A SIPTU delegation representing workers at SR Technics has met EU Employment Commissioner Vladimir Spidla to raise concerns over the pension rights of workers at the firm.
The SR Technics pensions fund was suspended earlier this year when the company decided to end operations in Ireland.
Included in the delegation was Dennis Dennehy, who had paid into the company pension scheme for 40 years, but was 11 weeks short of qualifying for a pension when the scheme was suspended.
SIPTU wants the Commission to push the Government to introduce legislation similar to other EU states that would empower the pensions regulator to compel solvent companies to meet their pensions obligations.
