Gardaí and fire brigade personnel have overpowered a man who threatened to set himself on fire outside Government Buildings.
The man had been holding a flask of petrol and a cigarette lighter.
During the melee, the petrol was spilt but did not ignite as fire brigade personnel immediately activated water hoses and fire extinguishers.
The man was arrested and taken away by gardaí.
The area directly outside Government Buildings was sealed off for a time.
