90 staff are to be laid off by Pobal, a not-for-profit company that manages programmes on behalf of the government and the EU.

Company CEO Denis Leamey told the Public Accounts Committee the jobs will be cut by the beginning of next year.

He said 52 staff have volunteered for redundancy and talks are ongoing with staff representatives over the rest.

Pobal employs 270 people in offices around the country.
