Beached whale dies off west Cork

A 18m (60') fin whale has died after it became beached at Courtmacsherry, Co Cork, this morning.

An 18m fin whale has died after it became beached at Courtmacsherry, Co Cork, this morning.

Rescue efforts got under way this morning after the whale beached itself in the harbour.

The rescue efforts were led by the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat, which had said that time was against them because the tide was going out.
