Spanish authorities have seized four tonnes of cocaine as it was being brought ashore in a cove in northwest Spain.
They surprised traffickers unloading the drugs from a six-engine speedboat before dawn yesterday. One man was arrested.
The Galician coastline, notoriously dangerous for ships, is a favourite entry route to Europe for cocaine traffickers.
A police spokesman said the cocaine would have a minimum value of about €240m if pure, although it was more likely to be mixed with other substances.
Over 117 tonnes of cocaine was seized in Europe in 2006, according to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction.
50 tonnes of that was seized in Spain.
