More than 200 Woolworths stores across Britain and Northern Ireland closed today.
600 other stores are due to cease trading on 5 January unless a last-minute buyer is found.
27,000 people are expected to lose their jobs, 620 in Northern Ireland.
Woolworths called in administrators last month amid mounting debts of 385 million pounds.
