Gardaí in Dublin searching for a missing 21-year-old student have recovered a body from the Grand Canal Dock.
Alan Houston, from Donegal, was last seen at the junction of Pearse Street and Lombard Street in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Friends understood that Mr Houston intended returning home to his apartment at the nearby Charlotte Quay Dock near Ringsend.
When he failed to appear later that day at Trinity College, where he studied, his friends and family became concerned.
A substantial search was organised, involving gardaí and Mr Houston's classmates, friends and family.
A large number of posters were put up in the surrounding area, and leaflets were distributed to the public seeking assistance in locating the missing man.
This morning members of the garda underwater unit carried out a search of the water at the Grand Canal Dock, close to where Mr Houston lived.
Shortly after 10am they recovered a body from the water.
The formal identity of the body has not been made public.
However, gardaí say they are no longer searching for Mr Houston, and are treating his disappearance as a tragic accident.
