TD says RTÉ Budget coverage 'unbalanced'

Fianna Fáil TD Noel Treacy has launched a wide ranging attack on RTÉ and the media, alleging bias and unethical practices.

Speaking during a debate on the Broadcasting Bill the Galway East TD described RTÉ as a left wing organisation, singling out this year's post Budget coverage as unbalanced.

He claimed that discussion panels had been loaded with left-wing commentators in favour of Government spokespeople.

Mr Treacy also cited what he claimed had been a serious invasion of privacy in the case of a woman in his constituency involved in a controversy who had died soon after she had 'been incarcerated in her house for a week' when it had been surrounded by the media.

The Galway East TD, who served as junior minister in a number of departments, called for the Broadcasting Act to be amended so that the license fee was divided equally between RTÉ, TG4 and TV3 and independent broadcasters.
