Production scaled back at Sligo plant

Bruss Sligo - Dramatic decrease in demand
Bruss Sligo - Dramatic decrease in demand

Production at a Sligo car component manufacturer is being cut back due to a dramatic fall in car sales throughout Europe and North America.

G. Bruss, which produces precision components for cars like Audi, Mercedes and Ford, employs 300 people in Sligo.

It is temporarily shutting down production during November and December due to a downturn in sales.

The company says it is reducing production by four days in November and eight days in December to avoid over-production.

It says the decision to do so was taken solely as a reaction to the reduction in demand for its customer's products.

The company says that Bruss Sligo remains profitable and management are confident that the continued effort made by the workforce and management has put the facility in a strong position to see it through the current crisis without any major impact on long term employment.
