A €10m plan to convert Clontarf sea baths in Dublin into a luxury day spa and swimming pool has been turned down by An Bord Pleanála.

Abbeybeg Ltd, headed by former Olympic swimmer Stephen Cullen, was granted planning permission from Dublin City Council but the decision was appealed by the local conservation group Dublin Bay Watch.

In its decision, An Bord Pleanála ruled that the development would detract from the visual amenity of Clontarf promenade and was contrary to the area's zoning objective.

The Clontarf sea baths were built in 1864 but have been derelict since they closed in the 1990s.
