The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, was in Dublin today, where he held talks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin.

The two Ministers discussed the situation in Georgia and the peace efforts led by the European Presidency.

Afterwards, Mr Lavrov said that Russia intends to 'implement in full our obligations in this respect'.

Minister Martin said that while there are issues on which Russia and the EU disagree, 'there is no question of disengagement, nor should there be. Russia will be a partner for the EU for the foreseeable future'.

Mr Lavrov also paid a courtesy call to the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, at Government Buildings.
