The Government says the IDA has lined up a number of foreign direct investment projects to help offset recent job losses around the country.

Almost 500 job losses were announced yesterday in closures in Offaly and Cork.

Speaking on Morning Ireland, Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea said that despite the recent economic downturn it was business as usual for the Industrial Development Authority and Enterprise Ireland.

He said both agencies have several industrial job creation announcements in the pipeline for the coming months.

However, Fine Gael TD for Laois/Offaly Charlie Flanagan said there is no indication the Government is going to do anything.
