The National Consumer Agency has named and shamed 33 companies who have failed to comply with consumer legislation.

The NCA says it hopes the decision to publish the list will deter traders from failing to comply with consumer legislation.

Of the 33 companies listed, seven were prosecuted and fined with respect to price display offences.

Cecilia Stores Limited, Tesco Ireland, Dundrum Shopping Centre, Thomas Welby Gala store, Power's Londis supermarket and a garage company, Thomas Farrell & Sons, failed to display the prices of products.

The other two cases relating to two licensed companies, McDonnells and Westar Hotels Ltd, also failed to display price lists.

Two of the four companies contacted by the agency promised to comply with consumer legislation in the future.

Arch Motors Limited in Galway and Orange Motors Limited were found to have been engaged in misleading commercial practices by selling or offering for sale used clocked cars.

The agency says it intends to publish a full list of companies who fail to comply with consumer legislation twice yearly.
