The biggest mortgage lender in the country has tightened its lending criteria for first time buyers.

Permanent TSB was lending home loans that were equal to 92% of the value of a property but it has cut the figure to 90%.

The development is likely to make it more difficult for first time buyers.

The company has also pulled out of the residential buy-to-let market.
