The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has voiced outrage at deadly bombings in the Indian city of Jaipur yesterday which killed 63 people.

A spokesperson for Mr Ban said he strongly condemned the eight near-simultaneous blasts in which 216 people were injured.

Two men were arrested by Indian police after the attacks.

‘This seems to have been done by some international group,’ the state’s chief minister said.

Pakistan-based militants and fighting against Indian rule in Kashmir are usually blamed for such attacks.

One unexploded bomb was found attached to a bicycle at one of the explosion sites. It was defused and handed over to explosives experts.

A federal team of explosives experts has arrived from New Delhi to help with inquiries into the blasts.

Schools and government offices were closed today in a day of mourning across the state of Rajasthan, of which Jaipur is the capital.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the blasts and appealed for calm, as the government issued a nationwide security alert.
