Fisherman dies following accident

A crewman who was injured in an accident off the Co Cork coast this morning has died.

The accident happened around 6am when the Castletownbere-based boat was 48km south of the Fastnet Rock.

The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was knocked down by a heavy rope.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter took the man to Cork University Hospital.

Separately, a man is being treated in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin after he was injured on Bull Island.

The man was out walking on the beach when he fell and suffered a broken leg and fractured collar bone at around 7am this morning.
