Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin begins a week-long trade mission to the US today.
In a statement before his departure, Mr Martin said Ireland's future economic interests would be best served with a Yes vote in the upcoming referendum on the EU's Lisbon Reform Treaty.
Mr Martin said a No vote would send Ireland in a very negative and unclear direction, and would lead to a reduced level of foreign investment from the US.
