At least ten people have been killed and more than 160 injured in a bomb blast at a mosque in Iran.
Initial reports said the explosion late last night was caused by a bomb but there was later uncertainty over its cause.
The massive explosion in the men's section of the mosque took place at around 5.30pm Irish time, during an evening prayer sermon by local cleric Hojatoleslam Anjavinejad.
The police chief of Fars province said later there had been an exhibition in the mosque a little time ago commemorating the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
Commander Ali Moayeri said 'The munitions left at the site could have the been the reason for this explosion.'
He ruled out any act of sabotage.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said the investigation was continuing.
