Further fire in Waterford after blaze

Fire services attended the scene of another fire in Waterford city this afternoon.

Four units from Waterford city fire service attended the blaze at a derelict house at the Glen in the city.

The terraced house which has been disused for some time has been completely gutted. No one has been injured in the incident.

The adjoining houses, which are also derelict, have suffered smoke damage. Gardaí are investigating the incident.

It comes after a DIY premises in the city was gutted in a major fire last night.

The fire started at You Decor on Thomas Street around 6pm and around 100 people had to be evacuated from their apartments and flats. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The homes and the nearby Downes pub, one of the oldest pubs in the city, suffered smoke damage.

Some 50 fire fighters from Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny brought the blaze under control last night.

Fire services were still at the scene today and Thomas Street was to remain closed for most of the day. A technical examination was to be carried out this afternoon.

Meanwhile, a fire that broke out at a disused factory in Dublin was brought under control.

The fire began at around 4am at a disused factory in New Wapping Street off the North Wall Quay.
