An investigation is under way into the cause of a fire at the Crossagalla Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Limerick city.
Firefighters and gardaí are likely to remain at the scene for most of the day.
The outbreak was reported yesterday evening at a cold storage unit at the estate on the Tipperary Road.
Several fire brigade units from Limerick, Clare and Tipperary attended the scene.
Gardaí say no one was injured in the fire but extensive damage has been caused to the building.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined at this stage.
Fire personnel are still working to dampen-down the smoke still billowing from the premises.
There was an old asbestos roof on the building and fire personnel are seeking the advice of Limerick County Council's environment department before they can declare it is safe for investigators to enter the gutted building.
The premises was packed with frozen food and meat all of which was destroyed in the extensive blaze.
Its understood 10 people were employed at the premises.
Fire at Dublin hotel
Separately, Dublin Fire Brigade attended a fire at the Clarence Hotel last night.
The fire brigade received a call that the basement of the hotel was on fire at 11pm last night.
Three units of the fire brigade attended the fire, which was brought under control after about an hour and a half.
Firefighters needed to use breathing apparatus to reach the scene of the blaze.
Guests were evacuated from the hotel for a time but were later allowed to return.
