The Cabinet has approved the draft referendum bill which will allow a vote on the Lisbon Treaty.

Negotiations with the main Opposition parties are to take place before the bill is introduced in the Dáil, which is likely to happen in two weeks.

This means the referendum is unlikely to take place until the end of May, or beginning of June, at the earliest.
