Gardaí investigating the gun attack on Martin Foley have recovered a car they believe was used by the gunman.
Gardaí are forensically examining a white Ford van that the gunman used to escape after the shooting.
Convicted criminal Foley was admitted to St James's Hospital, where his condition is described as critical. He has undergone surgery to have a bullet removed.
The 55-year-old, known as 'The Viper', was hit at least six times after 10 shots were fired at him from a handgun in south Dublin.
He was shot in the shoulder at least three times, in the hip and two bullets entered his spine and near his kidneys. Another bullet bounced off his skull near his right eye.
The shooting happened outside the Carlisle gym on Kimmage Road West yesterday afternoon.
Detectives say that Foley knows who shot him and shouted out the gunman's name a number of times as he was being shot outside the gym on Kimmage Road West. However he has not made a statement to the gardaí identifying the man.
It is the fourth time that Foley has been shot.
Gardaí are appealing for information.
