The Society of Coroners in Ireland said an increase in deaths linked to cocaine was being recorded by coroners' courts throughout Ireland.
The head of the society, Professor Denis Cusack, said that in 2000 and 2001 it began to see a small number of deaths related to cocaine but since 2005 there has been a very dramatic increase.
He said that last year in Kildare, cocaine was the second highest cause of death after alcohol.
Professor Cusack said the message must go out to families that there is a real risk of dying from cocaine.
