The President of the Law Society has said he does not favour self-regulation of the legal profession. James MacGuill called for external regulation, in which solicitors would play their part.
Mr Mac Guill was speaking at the annual Justice Media Awards ceremony in Dublin.

Paul Loughlin from Primetime won the broadcast programme award for 'The Big Picture: Crime.'
Journalist Mary Rafferty was awarded a certificate award for 'Making them Pay'.
Dearbhaill McDonald of the Irish Independent won the national newspaper award.
Other recipients included John Burns of the Sunday Times, John O'Mahoney of the Irish Examiner, Kieron Wood of The Sunday Business Pos and Paul Cullen of The Irish Times.
There were no overall awards made in the radio category or in the overall winners section.
