Eight dead in Afghan bomb blasts

Eight people have been killed in two bomb blasts in Afghanistan.

One of the bombs was planted on a dusty road used by Italian military forces on the outskirts of the capital Kabul and tore apart a car, killing four Afghan civilians.

The four men were local farmers and it was unclear why their vehicle had been targeted.

The bomb appeared to have been remotely detonated.

But an Afghan intelligence official said the road was often used by local security forces and Italian troops who have a post in the area.

One of the main spokesmen for the Taliban movement said his group was not responsible for the bombing.

The spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, did claim a similar blast in the eastern province of Paktia, which killed four Afghan soldiers.

The bomb near Paktia's capital of Gardez was detonated remotely as an Afghan army convoy passed by.
