120 new jobs are to be created at the Canadian owned Celestica electronic plant in Galway.
Announcing the posts, Minster for Enterprise & Employment, Micheál Martin, said job creation in Ireland continues to be very robust and very successful.
He said that while Ireland is no longer in the market for low cost manufacturing jobs, it is seeing a very significant number of new high-end and high-skill jobs being created in the country.
Celestica already employs a workforce of 320 at the Parkmore Industrial Estate, where it has been in production since 2004.
It is now expanding the plant to produce a new range of power packs for use with mobile phones and other electronic devices, including iPods and MP3 players.
The fuel cell power packs, which will provide multiple charges to portable electronic devices, will be the first of their kind on the market.
Celestica will be recruiting engineers, chemists and specialists in the fields of automation and quality control to fill the new jobs.
The company said Galway had competed successfully for the new jobs against locations in China and the US.
