Former Roscommon Fianna Fáil TD dies

The death has taken place of former Roscommon Fianna Fáil TD, Dr Hugh Gibbons.

Dr Gibbons, who sat in Dáil Eireann in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was the holder of three All Ireland Medals while playing for Co Roscommon.

In 1940 he played with the county junior team, which won the All Ireland junior title that year.

He then played for the the county team which won All Ireland senior titles in 1943 and 1944.

Dr Gibbons' son, Dr Brian Gibbons, a native of Keadue, Co Roscommon and graduate of NUI Galway is the Minister for Social Justice and Local Government in the Welsh Assembly Government.
