A 47-year-old father of three from Listowel in Co Kerry, who went missing in France almost two months ago, has made contact with police in Paris.

It is understood that the family of travel agent John Kennelly were contacted in Listowel earlier today after he walked into a police station in Paris.

Mr Kennelly had been in Paris on 9 September with his wife Marie and two of his children to attend a trade fair relating to his furniture business. The family had been due to return home later that day.

However, Mr Kennelly left the Meridien Etoile Porte Maillot hotel in Paris at 7am that morning and said he was going for a walk. He had not been seen since.

A number of people joined members of Mr Kennelly's family in the search for him in Paris but no trace of him had been found.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said the department is aware of developments and is in contact with John Kennelly's family and with the French police.
