Frederick Russell - Final arguments expected today

Final arguments are expected today in the trial of Frederick Russell, who was extradited from Ireland to the US last year to face charges of vehicular homicide in a drunk driving case which caused three fatalities.

Mr Russell, who was living in Dublin under a false name, was identified from the FBI's Most Wanted list posted on the internet.

He was charged following a crash on the Washington-Idaho state border in June 2001.

Three students were killed and three other people were seriously injured. Mr Russell was over the legal alcohol limit.

He jumped bail later that year citing death threats and fears he would not get a fair trial.

Mr Russell resurfaced in Ireland in 2005 when an anonymous source recognised him from the FBI's Most Wanted List.

He was extradited last year and his trial began three weeks ago.

Yesterday the court heard from Mr Russell's mother who testified she believed Frederick had been killed and did not know he had absconded to Ireland.

The court also heard an expletive-laden phone message containing death threats against Mr Russell and his mother.
