Police in Thailand have arrested a suspected paedophile who has been the subject of a search operation led by Interpol.
Christopher Paul Neil, 32, who is accused of sex crimes against children in Vietnam and Cambodia, was arrested in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima, 250km northeast of Bangkok.
Thai police issued a warrant for his arrest yesterday. He fled South Korea a week ago when two Thai teenagers accused him of paying for oral sex when they were nine and 14.
Interpol launched an appeal through the international media after experts unscrambled a digital photograph that had concealed his identity.
Mr Neil could face up to 20 years in jail if convicted in Thailand. He could also be extradited once he has served his sentence.
Canada, which can prosecute its citizens for child sex crimes committed abroad, but has rarely done so, has not said whether it plans to seek his extradition.
Cambodia and Vietnam might also want to question him.
