Fianna Fáil has said the party is currently engaging with its local organisation in Co Mayo on the issue of re-admitting TD Beverley Flynn to the party.

A Fianna Fáil spokesman said the general secretary would be meeting those involved over the coming weeks.

Today, bankruptcy proceedings taken by RTÉ against Ms Flynn were struck out at the High Court. The proceedings arose from Ms Flynn's failed libel action against RTÉ and Charlie Bird.

She owed the station almost €3m but RTÉ agreed a settlement of €1.225m with her.

In late August, RTÉ confirmed that it had received the money from Ms Flynn. The High Court made no order in relation to the costs of the bankruptcy proceedings, which means both sides must pay their own costs.

Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne was told that Ms Flynn's constitutional challenge to the 1992 electoral act, which prevents a bankrupt from being a member of the Dáil, could also be struck out.

It was agreed the State would be awarded costs in the constitutional action. However, these costs are expected to be minimal as the matter never went to hearing.
