A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspicious device that was found earlier this morning in Dublin.

It was found between two skips on Carlough Road near the Old Carba Road in the north of the city.

The army bomb disposal team attended the scene at 5.45am and declared the device was an elaborate hoax.

Carlough Road was closed at the junctions with the Navan Road and Annamoe Road following the discovery but has since reopened.
