The Old Dublin Road into Athlone has been closed by gardaí after the third attack on a woman walking in the area in eight weeks.
The latest incident took place in the early hours of this morning at Bonavalley Bridge near the Athlone Institute of Technology.
In the two previous incidents, women who were out walking alone were attacked near the same location.
No arrests have yet been made.
Crimestoppers is offering a reward of €10,000 for information leading to arrest of the man suspected to be responsible for the three attacks.
