A man arrested for questioning over how an eight-month-old baby boy received serious head injuries has been released without charge.

A file will be sent to the DPP and the investigation in continuing, according to Togher gardaí in Cork.

The 30-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning in the city and released late last night.

Gardaí were contacted by concerned medical staff when the baby was admitted to Cork University Hospital on 15 August last.

It is understood that the child is now off a life support system but, while stable, his condition remains serious.
