Police in Belfast are appealing for information after a man received serious injuries when he was attacked by another man wielding a machete.

The injured man was treated in hospital for a serious facial wound following the attack that happened around 2am this morning, at Glenmachan Street, in the Village area of the city.

The PSNI say they later received reports of a man armed with a machete in the nearby Sandy Row.

Detectives are also investigating a second incident that happened in east Belfast at 10am this morning.

A 62-year-old woman was walking through the grounds of the Stormont Estate when she was approached by a man armed with a knife.

The assailant then ran off and the woman was not injured but left severely shocked.
