An organisation working with prostitutes says it is dealing with more and more women who have been trafficked into Ireland for prostitution.
Ruhama says it knows of 216 women that have been brought to Ireland in the last seven years for that purpose.
The majority, 73%, came from Eastern Europe, 21% from Africa, 4% from South America and 2% from Asia.
So far this year the organisation has helped 16 women.
Ruhama says gardaí must set up a national vice-squad and the Government must put effective legislation in place to protect victims and deal with trafficking.
