A 31-year-old man, who admitted possession of cocaine with intent to supply, has been remanded in custody for sentencing next week.

Darren Gilligan, who has an address in Lucan in west Dublin, was arrested after he dropped a package containing around €1,000 worth of the drug and tried to flee.

He pleaded guilty at a district court hearing earlier this year and is due to be sentenced next Wednesday week.

Mr Gilligan is the son of the convicted drug dealer John Gilligan who's serving 20 years in Portlaoise prison.
