Funeral for Athlone boy takes place in Dublin

The boy who died after collapsing in an Athlone schoolyard on Friday was laid to rest in Dublin today.

16-year-old Zeeshan Muhammed, died at the Marist College shortly after 3pm on Friday afternoon.

He is originally form Pakistan and had been living in Athlone with his family for several years. Zeeshan was a popular student at the school and his classmates travelled to Dublin for the burial today.

After a funeral service at the Clonskeagh mosque in Dublin, his remains were interred at Newcastle cemetery.

Friends have also set up a special webpage to pay respects to Zeeshan, tributes to the boy have been posted since he died on Friday evening.

As a mark of respect the Marist College in Athlone will remain closed on Monday.

His death is the fourth such incident this week, on Tuesday a 16-year-old boy died after collapsing during class at Moate Community School and in Co Tyrone a 10-year-old boy died after he collapsed during a football training session.

Meanwhile, yesterday a 13-year-old boy died suddenly in Co Tyrone, the boy from Ardboe was warming up before training at his local GAA club when he collapsed and died.
