Gallagher clan sets new Guinness world record

The Gallagher Clan have broken the Guinness world record for the biggest number of people with the same surname attending a clan gathering.

At the Global Gallagher Gathering, in Letterkenny in Co. Donegal this afternoon, 1488 Gallaghers were counted by a Guinness Book of Records official who declared that they had beaten the world record, set by the Jones family in Wales last year.

1224 Jones's gathered in the Millenium stadium in Cardiff last November, but the Gallagher Clan beat that record by 264.

Hundreds of people travelled from all parts of Ireland and abroad including Gallaghers from New Zealand, Britain and the USA to the event.
