Five rescued in maritime incidents

Two people were rescued this afternoon when their cabin cruiser caught fire on Lough Derg in Co Clare.

The accident happened shortly before 1pm when the boat was near Two Mile Gate.

The Killaloe Coast Guard lifeboat and another cruiser succeeded in taking the two people to safety.

A fisherman is in a stable condition in Cork University Hospital after he was rescued from a trawler off the Cork coast last night.

The man was airlifted from the Irish fishing vessel just before 11pm last night.

He sustained an injury while working on the boat.

And a man and a woman were rescued off the west Kerry coast.

The alarm was raised after the catamaran they were sailing in went on to rocks near Ballydavid last night.
